This means you submit a story that is 1000 words or fewer; the number varies, but since I need more than a small taste of the writing, I put the word count as high as I could. All you have to do is sign up here, and on Sunday August 8th you can begin to submit your stories. Because I believe this should also be an exercise to increase one's readership and kind of like a mass-workshop, all the stories will be made public. There shall be a separate comments topic made for people who wish to critique stories. Now for the requirements: 1.) Sign up in THIS topic BEFORE Sunday unless I give special permission. 2.) Prepare an ORIGINAL work that is no more than 1000 words. Note: Please do not submit joke stories, such as things that are three sentences. They will be immediately discarded and there are no second submissions. 3.) An eagerness to take part in a Literary Challenge! 4.) NO FANFICTION! That's it! The due date for the stories will be posted in the submissions topic, which will probably be located in the Literature Club. As far as genres go, there is no limit (besides erotica) as to what you can do. So be artistic and write something up! It can be whatever you want, as long as it flows and is structured. This form of writing is a little harder to write because you need a clear beginning, middle, and end with some sort of character/theme potrayal in such a short amount of words. So naturally, you will be given enough time to do all this if you wish, but you DON'T need to be perfect! That is not how the judging will be. Now, if you happen to write something that perfectly has those three components and a theme/character depth, that's great. But remember, it can be cliche or just there with no sense of style. Originality and writing style will also play a large role in the scoring, so don't be discouraged! I know some of you may be worried about spelling/grammar errors and I'm not a harsh guy. I can understand a few mistakes. But I'm also a writer myself and understand the importance of proofreading. This will be a good lesson for some of you to start doing so, because 1000 words is NOTHING to look over a few times. A few tips one should take for this is would be: A: Read it out loud. Honestly, this is the best way, because you'll hear your mistakes if you read somewhat slowly to yourself aloud and will be able to pick up the grammatical mistakes and other things you did incorrectly. B: Read it out loud TO someone, or have them read it to you. This way, you'll have TWO people listening and able to hear something that's incorrect. A word from the wise, do not get angry if people don't like how you did something. Just because it made sense to you when you wrote it doesn't mean it will for everyone. C: When in doubt, print it out. Print out your story and analyze that thing like a piece of literature with a red pen. Make note of any cliches, things that don't make sense, grammar, symbolism.
